3000 Jerusalem 3000 Committee

Welcome to Jerusalem 3000!

New!! - List of Events

In 1996, Jerusalem will mark three thousand years since King David made this city in the hills the capital of his kingdom.

Since then, Jerusalem has been a site of pilgrimage, holy to the world's three great monotheistic faiths, a source of inspiration to artists and visionaries the world over.

Today Jerusalem is also a beautiful modern city with well-preserved historical and archaeological sites, a rich cultural life and well-developed tourist facilities.

Jerusalem is unique in history and unique in the world, and 1996 will be a unique year for Jerusalem.

David's multi-talented character---musician, warrior, statesman, poet and dancer as well as king and lover---will inspire a full year of cultural events.

Any time will be a special time to come to Jerusalem in 1996. Jerusalem has a long warm season and many of the projected artistic events and concerts will be held outdoors, some in the ancient Sultan's Pool just below the walls of Jerusalem's Old City. From David's Psalms, performed by world-renowned soloists and a huge chorus, to Verdi's opera "Nabucco" in the Arena di Verona's lavish production, to international rock and pop concerts, there will be something for tourists of every age and taste.

Monumental sound-and-light shows depicting Jerusalem's history will be viewed from a hillside promenade overlooking historic and modern Jerusalem.

A spectacular historical pageant, with gigantic figures and thousands of marchers and musicians, will parade through the streets of Jerusalem.

A few thousand extraordinarily lucky diners will feast at "King David's Table," a one time meal created by fifteen of the world's great chefs.

There will be a series of wortop artists and ensembles from around the world.

And more, much more: Biblical scenes as depicted by famous artists will be recreated in flowers, hundreds of Gospel choirs from the U.S.A will sing in the city's squares and parks, special museum exhibitions devoted to King David's era will be matched with special tours of unique archeological sites while sport lovers will enjoy a series of major tournaments.

These events are only a sample of what will take place in Jerusalem in 1996. For more information, please contact your nearest Israel Tourist Office or fax us directly.

Every year is a good year to visit Jerusalem, but 1996 is unique. Come see history come alive. Come be part of history.

After all, it happens only once in 3000 years!
