This sixth-century CE mosaic has been preserved almost in its entirety. The floor, which probably was part of a memorial chapel, was uncovered when foundations were being laid for a building in 1894. The central carpet of the mosaic is enclosed within a braided border. The point of departure is a vase from which a vine emerges and splits into four branches. These interweave to create medallions which serve as frames, aligned in nine rows, each containing the image of a bird. At the bottom of the mosaic is an inscription in Armenian: "In memoriam and to save the souls of all the Armenians whose names are known
only by God."
